For us who did loadbearing, we put the roof on our bale walls and it sat
several months as I measured carefully every week. We had NO
compression. I fully expected "up to 3" " but there was none. What we
finally realized was when we rebanded w/poly pallet strapping our corner
(twine tied) bales and those around the doors, we essentially PRE
compressed those bales. Hubby also had used a l ton hand wench (fence
type?) to pull down the cable tie downs and we were so certain we needed
to see the wall compress that he actually broke one wench! Our two
string wheat bales were on there own quite compressed and dense as baled.
This was all in 1994-95 so I am sure you will get more recent experience
related from others.

I'd imagine for non-loadbearing, compression might be viewed differently.
