SB: RE: faswall
Here is one person's opinion: I don't like it!
The blocks are very heavy, the insulation values are just so-so, the ones I looked at were obviously slightly hydroscopic, the material used is not always destined for the dump, there are many other uses for the raw material; well you get the idea.
If the concept of a fireproof ICF appeals to you, then check out www.rastra.com or www.rastratexas.com. The Rastra blocks are made a something that is in the waste stream with few other effective use. The Rastra plants are always located near a source of styrofoam packing material. This is commonly used in both the consumer electronics industry and the computer industry to protect fragile items. Just image how much styrofoam is used in packing a load of plain picture tubes!
It is just as fireproof, it is more water resistant, has far greater insulation properties, it is 85% post-consumer waste, and uses about the same amount of concrete/cement. Also, RASTRA is Black Mold Proof because there's nothing for it to feed on such as wood or wood products & no cavities for it to nest in.

You all seem to be an experienced group. I have a question about using
Faswall blocks. I have an opportunity to by some but need to know how they
rate against other insulated concrete forms and/or a poured concrete
foundation with exterior insulation. I will be building into a shallow
sloping hillside and would have a foundation wall about 4 ft. deep. This
would support the strawbale wall with an interior timber frame on concrete
pads. The floor would be a slab on grade. I'm wondering about the pros and
cons of Faswall any help is much appreciated.
