Re: SB: Lime vs Portland Plaster - time between coats

G ' day Limeys

I believe and experience is proving me right so far that with lime putty
renders there is no need to let the render dry between coats. That is dry
right out. I find lime putty mixs to dry very quickly and require little or no
waiting between coats to get on with the job.

However earth/clay render should be allowed to dry completely before the
application of a lime putty finish coat. I apply all three coats of
earth/clay/chaff one after the other and then wait for the whole to cure and
dry.

No scientific reasons for the above just expediency and practice I suppose.

Also I have heard that it is not a good idea to apply lime putty when the
temps. are freezing or below. Does not happen here in Australia. We also do
not advocate rendering above 30 C too hot anyway for us older type balers.
