SB: Pins and Netting

Terri asked about pinning and netting:

My original intention was to not install either through bale, interior or exterior rebar vertical pins on my infill post & beam.  However, the first wall fell after a strong wind.  I then placed vertical rebar pins at 8' center both inside and outside the walls.  I tied the two parallel bars together by threading bailing wire between the pins and through the bales.  Worked perfectly.  My intention was to apply the scratch coat direct to the bales, no netting.  I soon determined this approach would require considerable more scratch mud.  Therefore, I installed stucco netting (no paper) and bailing wire tied the netting to the rebar pins, both in and out side.  Worked perfectly.  In areas between the pins I secured the netting direct to the bales using "washer pins."  These 6" pins are barbed about half way up, resulting is a very secure connection to the bales.  The washer type head is about 1" in diameter.  Worked perfectly.  The pins are called "Type EGA/T Round Cap Nails."  To find your local pin seller contact "Prime Source Building Products" in Dallas.  A box of several hundred or more pins costs about $25.00.
