RE: SB: Re: RE: summation

Thank you.

I have been lurking for several weeks now, trying to get a feel for the
group before I jumped in and made a fool of myself. But this thread has
kind of intrigued me. In my training for people new to our email at work,
I tell them that neatness and grammer still count, just like in school.
I TELL THEM THAT ALL CAPS IS LIKE SHOUTING AT SOMEONE - and nobody
appreciates
that! All lower case is harder to read - it's hard to understand where
sentences - and thoughts - begin and end. E-mail is a casual medium, but
it still reflects 'us' to the world...

Now, off my soap box and onto a straw bale!

I am new to the concept of a straw house, but am totally intrigued and
looking for more information. I've been reading, books and this list, and
anything else I can find. My kids think I'm crazy, so I must be on the right
track!

I have not seen anything mentioned about or by anybody in Missouri - is
there
anybody doing alternative housing methods in this part of the world? I know
we have some challenges, i.e., high humidity, lots of rain, tornados, and
termites to mention just a few. But would love to know if this is even an
option in this climate.

Thanks.

Mary

The letters don't read the same big or small. All lowercase or
all uppercase are both harder to read. This is not just my
subjective experience; it is a statement borne out by the research.

If you were writing your own journal, for your own sole
consumption, I might agree with you. If you were writing for an
audience which did not care, I might agree with you. However, what
you are actually doing is asking people to take the time to sit down,
read your posts, think about them, and care enough to take the time
and effort to reply. You are essentially begging for free advice.
All of us who post questions here do that every time we post a
question.

Most of us have other priorities in our lives (for instance, in
my case: two children, my marriage, my spiritual life, my work for
pay, and actual work accomplished on my own house, just to list the
top tier). We answer questions because we want to, because we feel
like it, or because we want to give something back for what we have
received. Why ask us to go to even more trouble to decipher your
posts? It's not that they're illegible; they're just *harder* to
read. The letters don't read the same. Capital letters and other
proper punctuation mean that the text scans more easily.

So you go to the trouble to post. Why cripple your efforts by
requiring people to go even farther out of their ways to help you,
and thus cutting the number of replies you receive?

> im not that picky i guess.

In this case, your opinion isn't the one which has an impact. If
you go to a foreign country and refuse to use the language, your
experience will be a good deal poorer than it could have been.

     Best wishes,

-Speireag.
