Re: SB: Subject: Re: SB: Re:Expensive Straw
A the risk of really sticking my neck out, I maintain that
there is no building material for walls, at any price, that completely
answers as many building 'questions' as straw bale.
Those are my thoughts, not yours.

Keith I would agree for those areas that DO have straw but NOT
woodchips or sawdust.
here in the PacNW I can get free sawdust and chips everywhere, and when
mixed with a clay slip, on site, can be made into free, lightweight.
highly insulative, bug & fire resistant blocks, bricks, wall infill
pour, and plaster ( a sawdust version heavy on the clay ratio),
breathable and appropriate for my climate. Fast and easy to place
between studs or any framing, or just slip formed.
I don't have to protect the materials under tarps before use, they are
easy to lift and handle, moths/bugs don't burrow in (although my
yellow cat loves to roll in redwood sawdust and ends up looking like a
crunchy golden burrito) and in general are easy for me to deal with.
While this is not the alt.sawsust-claybuilding list I wanted to put in a
word for other materials for those crazy-in-love with bales. : >
