Re: SB: instant hot water heaters?

Back in 78 I put in an ultra-low flow shower head with an electric instant
hot water heater behind it. It worked OK, but I have to say that I hate the
low-flow heads. I don't taking a "Navy shower", but give me some water
pressure. But I digress. The heater worked for about a year. It seems
that the process of heating the cold water causes the minerals to come out
of solution and bond with the pipes in the heater. At least that is what
appeared to happen. Any chemists out there who can explain this phenomenon.
Anyway, beware of hard water with on-demand heaters.

Anyone had these installed over a long time with hard water?

I think also that gas--which is cheaper and better anyway--is the only way
to get a full-house system. The output on the electrics is perfect for
reducing water use for an individual sink (letting water run to get hot).
Maybe a cool way to supplement a solar system.

Richard
