Re: SB: instant hot water heaters?

I have had an AquaStar for almost 8 years. We have very hard water from
our well and have to flush the heater out with vinegar. (It works best if
is warmed.) I have had some problems with loss of flow due to the
sediment in the heater and then it goes into the faucets. The sediment
plays total havoc with low flow showers, but I have installed a on/off
valve on the hot water line just before the heater. When a faucet clogs
up, I just turn off the hot water, unscrew the faucet and clean it out.
However, my kitchen faucet has a diverter and I can just screw off the
middle piece and it clears out easily without turning anything off.
I have saved thousands of dollars. When we first moved in here, we had
to fill up our propane tank every month during the winter. We can now go 2
to 3 months on one tank. Also the typical tank-type hot water heater has
its problems with hard water also. The tank fills with this sediment if it
is not cleaned out. It either burns out the heating element or gets
really heavy and falls through the floor. The pilot light then ignited the
leaking gas. I know of at least one fire that was started that way.
Also, my water heater heats the water sufficiently to provide more than
adequate hot water and pressure in my kitchen 50 feet away. (All the
piping is inside).
