Re: SB: Re: earth plaster for commercial use

Very informative posts... While I have no experience with earthen plasters,
I can add some useful information about drywall and plaster (lime and
earthen, perhaps). Getting plaster of any kind to stick to drywall is a real
trick. There are adhesives and concrete treatments and stucco wrap that
help, but if you've not yet drywalled, the thing to do is buy what's called
veneer board or blueboard instead (NOT greenboard, aka blueboard, which is
used in moist areas like bathrooms). It looks just like drywall, and comes
in the same sizes, but the paper is pH balanced and heavier grade so it
takes plaster beautifully (your generic old Portland-based plaster as well
as lime plaster, though I haven't tried earthen plaster on it). It costs
roughly the same as drywall, too. When storing it, you have to keep it not
only dry but out of the sun, because UV affects the paper, apparently.

The last issue to take care of is the adhesion of any of these plasters,
paints to the drywall and that will have to be accomplished with some form
of a glue. That can either be casein for the natural version or some sort
of acrylic based goop like concrete adhesive. No reason not to use the
casein as it would do the trick.
