+++++++++++++++

Time is your friend in this case...use it if you can to age the putty. Mike Tate will back up that vats/ pails of lime putty are aged for years, decades and handed down from father to son (or hip daughter).

agiing the lime in water is first---3 years or more hsitoprically, then aging the plaster mix another couple years is best.... In reading the Historic Scotland materials on lime they recommend aging/storing lime sand plaster mixes 2 moths after mixing just to let the lime and sand mellow together...

The Chicago lime plaster folks (name skips me..Heritage something) mix exact historic recipes of sand/lime etc for WHite House repair, etc and other venerable bldgings..all based on storing lime putty mixes for years so the repair material is aged the same as the just used stuff, for future repairs.

While it may be "good" to use the lime in a few weeks or months and you may see no diference in performance in your lifetime the real long term value may never be achieved, but then who says the house has to last 300 years?..I can't believe modern straw bales will survive that long anyway.
( OK.. have it bale lovers) : >
