CHAIRMAN’S ADDRESS

We are very glad to invite bioenergy researchers, consultants, manufacturers and consumers of bioenergy equipment, decision-makers and other representatives of Biomass Community to the 2nd International Ukrainian Conference on Biomass for Energy. The first biomass conference held on 23-26 September 2002 generated great interest in Ukraine. About 180 people participated in it including 30 attendees from EU countries and the USA. We are sure that the Second Conference will influence significantly bioenergy development in Ukraine. The Conference will be held in Kyiv - one of the oldest and beautiful cities of Europe. We believe that your stay here will be useful and pleasant.

PROGRAMME

The three-day Conference programme will have:

TOPICS

  1. Biomass resources: recovery, production, pre-treatment, supply and logistics for feedstock from forestry, agriculture, animal husbandry and processing industry.

  2. Research and development of bioenergy technologies: combustion, gasification, pyrolysis, anaerobic digestion, extraction and utilisation of landfill gas, and biofuels production (biodiesel, ethanol, methanol, hydrogen).

  3. Demonstration and market implementation of biomass-to-energy technologies.

  4. Strategy and policy issues: legislative and financial support, stimulation of development, Kyoto Protocol,

reduction of CO2 emission, national and local legislation, socio-economic issues, national and local strategies for bioenergy development.

5. Economic and environmental issues of bioenergy technologies.

PURPOSE OF THE CONFERENCE

The Conference is aimed at the encouragement of the use of biomass for energy production and promotion of sustainable development of bioenergy technologies in Ukraine.

WORKING LANGUAGES OF THE CONFERENCE

Ukrainian, Russian, English Simultaneous translation of presentations will be provided.

RULES FOR ABSTRACT PREPARATION

The Book of Abstracts will be published in two languages: Russian and English.

An abstract, single spaced, 11 size Times New Roman font should include:

-Applicable subject number (1 to 5 above).

-Full title.

- Full name, affiliation and contact information for all authors, including indication of the person for correspondence.

-Purpose of the work.

- Results.

-Conclusions.

Deadline for receipt of abstracts is 30 April 2004

Abstracts should be prepared in English (obligatory) and in Russian (desirable). An abstract should not exceed 1 page of A4 format (210 x 297 mm). In addition authors may add up to 3 explanatory pages, which will facilitate reviewers‘ assessment.

Only contributions meeting the above rules will be considered.

CONFERENCE VENUE

The 2nd International Ukrainian Conference on Biomass for Energy will be held at premises belonging to the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (55, Vladimirskaya str.). Located in the city centre the Conference facility will give the participants a good opportunity to combine constructive work with exploring the cultural and historical treasures of Kyiv - the city with more than a 1500-year history.
