Chapter 5 - Fuel Cell Price Points

Based on review of available literature, REPP research indicates that as of 2002 fuel cell price points are thought be between $50/kW to $10,000/kW, depending on technology and application. These levels reflect the threshold of commercial viability for each application. On average, current fuel cell commercial cost is $4,000-5,000 per kilowatt.

Application Price Point for Commercial Viability
Transportation $50 per kW
Distributed Residential $300 to $500 per kW
Distributed Commercial $1200 to $3000 per kW
Stationary Grid Connected $1000 to $1500 per kW
Portable/Micro $5,000 to $10,000 per kW
